Doreen Lynn Schmitt: May 30, 1958- October 11, 2011

It's with great sadness that we tell you Mom lost her battle with cancer earlier today. She was such a fighter and a huge inspiration for all of us. As we begin the mourning process and prepare funeral arrangements we ask that you keep her family and friends in your thoughts and prayers. This has been a difficult path to follow the past 5 years, but we have grown significantly in the process. In losing our mom we know we have gained many true friends along the way. Thank you for supporting all of us through good times and bad.

Sincerely-
The luckiest Kids in the World

Funeral Services will be held at the Camano Chapel on Camano Island, Saturday October 15th at 1100, with a luncheon to follow. A private burial will take place at Anderson Cemetary in Stanwood.

  6. So very sorry to read this. I had followed her blog from the time of my own lung cancer diagnosis in 2007, and marveled at her handling of everything that came her way.

  11. As lost as I feel knowing that I wont be able to follow your mother's journey any longer...I can imagine your pain is 100 times greater. What a blessing to have had her as long as you did. I pray for you all at this time. Much love to you all.

  13. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. I was nine when my mom left this world to be with my dad and the Lord. I will say this, not a day goes by that I don't miss them both but I hold onto the memories that we shared even if it was for a short time. Live for the moment and know you too will see your mom and dad again someday. I'm blessed to know that day may not be today for me but it will come and I'll be ready for it. Love you guys lots. You're all angels to me.

  16. This blog was the closest I have been to cancer. Five years ago I was terrified of anyone close to me getting this disease. I still am. But because of the Schmitt Family I am less afraid. Your families journey has taught me to be brave, to celebrate, to laugh, cry, hope and live each day Dreaming Big.

  23. Amy,Angie & Jacob...your Mom & Dad both live in the image of all 3 of you, the breath you take, the blood that carries life through your bodies and the smiles on each of your faces! All of you must know how proud both of them are of you, and if they could change anything they would. Such a blessing it has been to know them and you three in my lifetime. May you find some peace and solitude during this emotional time in your lives.

  24. The world is a better place because you lived. You memory will never be forgotten, and your legacy lives on through the lives of your incredible children and all those you have touched. I hope you are living the BIGGEST dream of all, breathing deep, full breaths, and dancing on clouds with your Ricky. You will be missed, Doreen.

With love and hugs to all you kids. May your void be filled with amazing memories of your mom and dad, with the love of others that care so much about you, and may your hearts heal and be full with joy, knowing how your mom left this world a better place than before she arrived here.

  26. I only knew Doreen for a week, but during that week she was like a mum to me. Reading this blog has shown me what a truly amazing woman Doreen was. She will be missed, but she lives on through each of you - and everyone who had the pleasure of meeting her.

  29. Though I didn't get to know your mom well, I cared about her and felt so very blessed that she shared her journey with us through the blog. She was a great lady. The ripple from all she did will help the world and this community forever.

The following is a small piece I wrote for a dear friend who lost her mother this year. Since then I know of three other families who have lost their mothers. I hope this brings comfort to you as well.

    A Mother’s Request

    Let me go before you.
It is as it should be.
I will be waiting for you.
For God has set me free.
And when your days have all passed,
    We will meet again
    In the beauty of Heaven
    where life will never end.

  32. I have been following your mom's blog for a couple of years now. I've been amazed at her strength and positive attitude. It was obvious how all her children loved her and gave her their full emotional support during the course of her illness. Your mom felt so blessed to have you children at her side. My deep condolences -- what a wonderful lady she was!

  33. I was blessed to have met your mom and spent time with her when she came and spoke at Relay training in Portland. She always made you smile and feel happy. Your families story is not only horrible luck, but a blessing to all who have heard it and got to know your family and the love you have for each other. The cards dealt to your family are not fair and you have made everyone more determined that cancer does not take away loved ones anymore. Thank you for sharing your families story and know that there are hundreds or thousands of people that are "Dreaming Big" for your Mom, Dad and your family.

    All my love,

  34. I haven't seen the schmitt family since I was in high school, but I have definitely heard your story...What an amazing and strong family you are. I commend u for sharing your story so that other people that find themselves in the battle of cancer, can fight it as you all did...with strength, courage, love and the will to never give up, and to always treat today as it's ur last, but to remember to thank god for tomorrow when it comes. I
hope that when you kids, Amy, Angie and Jake find yourselves in those moments of sadness and missing ur parents, just remember that they r together again...like teenagers dating and beginning a new life together in love, and one day, you will all be reunited, and they will
again hold their babies in their arms.

    Be Blessed and Dream Big

  36. My heart is so sad... I just can't stop missing Doreen and Rick. The last few days have been definite reality check. One day, one year, a family is complete and the next,it can be taken away. I feel like I love more than I ever have. I appreciate more than I ever have and I am grateful more than I ever have. I have a broken heart full of love for the Schmitt family. Amy, Angie, Jacob, Bob, Myrna and the rest of the family, you are all in my thoughts. Love and prayers to you all.

  39. My name is hoover, my 18 years old daughter, Tricia was diagnosed of herpes 3 years ago. ever since then,we have been going from one hospital to the other. We tried all sorts of pills but all efforts to get rid of the virus was futile. The blisters kept on reappearing after some months. My daughter was making use of Acyclovir tablets 200mg. 2 tablets every 6hours and fusitin cream 15grams. and H5 POT. Permanganate with water to be applied 2x a day but all still show no result. So I was on the internet some months back, to sought for any other means of saving my only child. just then, i came across a comment on dr imoloa herbal treatment and decided to give it a try. i contacted the him and he prepared some herbs and sent it to me together with guidelines on how to use the herbs through DHL courier service. my daughter used it as directed dr imoloa and in less than 14days, my daughter regained her health..
